Empowering Women in Politics: Dialogue for Change in North Lebanon
30/04/2025
East International University in Tripoli hosted a motivational dialogue session organized by the Fifty Fifty Association, which brought together an elite group of local community activists in North Lebanon, in addition to a number of female candidates, running for the upcoming municipal and elective elections. This session came within the framework of the association’s endeavor to empower women and enhance their presence in political and public life.
The session featured a comprehensive presentation on the importance of women’s participation in political decision-making, and included interventions from strong female leads, highlighting the challenges facing women in political work, and the need for a supportive and stimulating environment to increase their representation. The “Salmah Agreement”, an initiative aimed at ensuring fair and balanced representation of women in leadership positions and formulating public policies at the local level, was also addressed.
This activity fits within a wider program by the Fifty-Fifty Association with support from UN Women in Lebanon (@unwomenlebanon) and the United Nations Development Program in Lebanon (@undp_lebanon), and with funding from the Canadian Embassy in Beirut. The project aims to enhance the ability of women members to participate in decision making bodies, especially in municipal and elective elections, while also setting a precedent for awareness-raising, capacity building, and providing supportive dialogue spaces.
